SIRMIONE, an Italian town in the province of Brescia, is a popular place both in winter and in summer thanks to the variety of its attractions and the many places open all year round!

The old town is located on a narrow peninsula that cuts Lake Garda.

This town has very ancient origins; Roman and medieval remains have been found. In fact, there is also the opportunity to enjoy some cultural moments among visits to the Scaligero Castle with its moat and its walls and the archaeological area of the Catullus Caves.

Lovers of relaxation can split between a boat ride and a dip in the beneficial waters of the Spa. While those who are accustomed to never stop can enjoy the spectacular landscape by taking long walks on the shore of the Lake or delving into the suggestion of routes prepared for bicycles and motorcycles.
Sirmione is never bored!

Some historical evidence dates back to 1500 the discovery of the first sulfur source called Boiola.
But there is a precise date that marks the “birth” of the current Terme di Sirmione, or 24 August 1889.
That day, with a crowd of incredulous spectators, a Venetian diver of English origin, named Procopio, plunged into the waters under the Grotte di Catullo at about 300 meters from the shore and reached a depth of 20 meters. For the time, the feat was memorable! The fearless diver was simply equipped with a diving suit, but thanks to this brave dive, I managed to drive hot water into the rock, a conduit to flow water.
And if today we can benefit from the properties of this precious thermal spring we owe it to this Palombaro.

Botanical curiosities at SIRMIONE!

If we can take our eyes away from all those panoramic views that the lake all around us offers, we can see the majestic black poplar that shade the entire Largo Pertini and that, a few meters from the shore of the lake, embellishes the view towards Peschiera and Monte Baldo. Its mighty trunk has the remarkable circumference of almost 7 meters. How old can it be? It is difficult to define it precisely but, given that these trees can live from 200 to 400 years, it is not unlikely that this poplar existed at the beginning of the nineteenth century when the French took the Austrians over Lake Garda.  How long is this old poplar gonna last? Maybe a few years because there are already rotting areas, so, as long as it resists, let’s enjoy this natural monument.
